I don't want to rant too much about it, but I like hearing what other people think.
How much similarities do you see in 1984 and the Bush Administration?

Election day!
(this should be a quick one, becuase I'm supposed to be writing a paper... or two.. haha!)
Today is election day, which is especially celebrated on campus. Everyone is wearing stickers, holding up signs and pushing our little bodies into the polls to cast our vote. I like today. Unfortunately, in the last few minutes a good friend of mine asked me this question - "Does it say democrat next to their name on the ballot?"
Ok, first things first, I am a strong democrat. I have interned for Minnesotan congressmen candidate Tim Walz and senator candidate Sharon Ropes. I know a lot about the candidates. But! (this is a very important "but") I care more about the person I'm voting for then the actual party they are invovled with.
So, this question asked by my friend frustrated me greatly. She was about to walk over to vote and wanted to make sure that it said democrat next to the name, so she would know who to vote for. Maybe this wasn't the exact case, but this is the one that ran through my mind. That is simply disgusting. And, it's not only her. I can see it being very true with a lot of people. "Hm.. I like democrats.. might as well vote for all of them..." I want to see a democrat who is against women's suffrage and watch alllll of these people vote for him/her just becuase he/she is democrat. I think a lot of people are missing the point.
Even though today is over, I highly encourage everyone to just visit a candidates website (it's simple!) and look at what they are for and what they are against, and.. what they are planning to do in office. It's that simple! Vote for the person, not the party.

Hello Mindsay!
Well, I'd like to start off my first blog (on this name) with a greeting to all who takes the time to read it. I have used mindsay in the past and have no come back to it. It has been over a year, and sometimes I miss writing things down. I don't keep a journal becuase I want people to read what I have to say, and if I were to keep a journal, it would seem kind of nosy to read it. Myspace is absolutely absurd and I do have a facebook. I'm a freshman at Winona State University in Minnesota.
I'm a little uneasy becuase I don't want to come off sounding immature or anything like that. Which is a little awkward, becuase I'm sure everyone wants to sound wise and intelligent. In the past I've written blogs that were pretty depressing, mainly self-improvement but I've changed a lot. I am highly involved with Invisible Children which deals with the children in Northern Uganda and will deal with children unseen across the world. I also love to read, and am reading a lot in my Science Fiction class. A lot of people ask me "What, do you learn about aliens in that class?".. Which technically isn't true. I learn about novelists predicting outcomes of our societies if we continue to live the way we are. Which is simply amazing to me. I've read books like 1984 by George Orwell and Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein. I'm going to leave with an idea from the most recent book I read called The Left Hand Of Darkness by Ursula La Guin dealing with patriotism.
A person cannot simply love nor hate his country. I say his becuase in the Left Hand Of Darkness there is niether a male or female race, it is all bisexual (which I will most likely blog about in the future). You may enjoy the pleasures of your country, the aspects, the culture... but it is not the country itself that you love. You cannot hate a nation. You cannot show emotion towards a territory. We are all on this world together, and we do not love our countries, we love the people in the countries, therefore we should love everyone and not cover the idea that we are territories. " We do not serve our country, we serve humankind."
